Para imprimir el archivo PDF en Español  1. Icebreaker:  Tell about a time when you got yourself in trouble because you forgot that someone was coming back soon.   2. Our theme verse for this series is 1 Samuel 3:9: “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”  We’re learning to listen to what God is saying to us through His Word, the Bible, using our Word of God Speak reading plan and an acronym called S.O.A.P.  This week’s sermon comes out Pastor Trevor’s journal from 1 Peter 1.    S —> The Scripture he selected is:    1 Peter 1:13-16:  Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” What do you notice in this Scripture?   O —> The first part of Pastor Trevor’s Observation has to do with A call to hope (Jesus is coming) 3. What does 1 Peter 1:13-16 tell you about Jesus second coming?  Why does his second coming bring hope?   4. According to Scripture, Jesus will come again in a sudden, visible, physical, and glorious manner.  Talk about each of these qualifying words - what each word means and why each one is important.  ·      Sudden·      Visible·      Physical·      Glorious 5. Sincere Christ followers believe lots of different things regarding the details of the end times and the book of Revelation. Sometime people argue about these details, but at COH, this is what we call a non-essential.  The essential for us is that Jesus is definitely coming back, and He wins. Read each of the following Scriptures, and talk about what you learn regarding Jesus’ second coming in each one:   ·      John 14:3: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” ·      Acts 1:9-11:  After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” ·      Matthew 24:42-44: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” 6. Read 2 Peter 3:3-4: Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” Even back in Peter’s day, people sometimes had doubts about Jesus’ second coming. What are some reasons why this can be difficult for people to believe?   7. What helps you believe in Jesus’ second coming?   8. N.T. Wright wrote: “In a world of systematic injustice, bullying, violence, arrogance, and oppression, the thought that there might come a day when the wicked are firmly put in their place and the poor and weak are given their due is the best news there can be.”  What’s your response to this statement? 9. For those of us who have known and loved Jesus in this life, his appearing will be like meeting face-to-face someone you’ve only known through letters, phone calls, and e-mail.  What do you imagine it will be like to meet Jesus face-to-face? O —> The 2nd part of Pastor Trevor’s Observation has to do with A call to likeness (Be holy)   10.  Talk about some false ideas people sometimes have about holiness. 11. What is true holiness?   A —> Pastor Trevor reminded us that Application is the best part of journaling. It’s when you ask, ”Holy Spirit, how do you want to apply this to my life?”  Pastor Trevor’s application for this passage was:  If we expect someone to come back, we live like they are coming back.   12. How would you live differently if you knew that Jesus was coming back in exactly one month?P —> In the Prayer step, we invite God to help us. Take time to pray together with your group, asking God to help you live a more holy life with ongoing awareness of Jesus’ second coming.   Ready for your next step? – If you would like to take a next step in your faith journey, such as trusting your life to Christ or getting baptized, text the word “Next” to 561-264-6079 and follow the steps there, and we’ll contact you to help you do that. News and Announcements:·      New Here?  Let us know who you are by texting “connect” to 561-264-6079. ·      KOH Fam Jams – Our next KOH Fam Jam is Thursday, July 29th from 5:00-7:30pm at both our East and West Campuses.  For just $3/person (maximum $15/family), Fam Jam includes dinner and fun activities to do together as a family.
