Para imprimir el archivo PDF en Español  1. In this series, we’re considering whether there is such a thing as objective truth and whether we can trust the Bible as true. Most people recognize that there are objective truths in areas like math and science.  Why do people often think that when it comes to religion and faith, everyone’s ideas are equally true?   2. Read our memory verse for this series, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. What does the Bible claim about itself in these verses? The is God-breathed.  We call this process “inspiration.” 3. Read 2 Peter 1:20-21 – Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. What do you notice in these verses about the process of inspiration?   4. When deciding whether a book is worth reading, we generally ask ourselves “Is this reliable?” and “Is this useful?”  The Bible has been the #1 best-selling book in the world for many years.  Why do so many people read it, even though it’s thousands of years old?   5. What are some ways the Bible is unique and different from other books? 6. Theologian N.T. Wright says, “Inspiration is a shorthand way of talking about the belief that, by his Spirit, God guided the different writers and editors of the Bible, so that the books they produced were books God intended his people to have.”  What are some mistaken ideas people might have about what inspiration of the Bible is?  The purpose of the Bible is transformation.7. Hebrews 4:12-13 – For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. What do you notice in this passage?  Have you experienced this while reading Scripture?  Explain.   8.  What are some implications of the fact that God sees everything – even our thoughts and attitudes – and nothing is hidden from Him? 9. The purpose of the Bible is life change. As it says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, God wants to make your life better by teaching you, rebuking you, correcting you, training you in righteousness, and equipping you for good works.  Share about a time when you felt God correcting you while you were reading the Bible. 10. Mark Twain said, “It’s not the parts of the Bible I can't understand that bother me, it’s the parts that I do understand”.   What did he mean by this?   11. For the last week of this sermon series on Sunday, October 24, a panel of experts will answer our questions about the Bible.  If you have a question about the Bible that you would like to ask this panel, submit it at communityofhope.church/biblequestions. 12.
